BECAUSE THE WORLD IS NOT FLAT
The Tidal Collection is a collection of furnitures that challenge the conventions of living in the contemporary era where large space is a luxury. Each piece is lightweight yet strong, durable and easy to assemble and disassemble — occupying very little space when taken apart. With these unique features we have created a furniture series that comes and goes with you--that follows your tide.
The Tidal Collection consists of 3 pieces:
- The Roundabout is a multi-functional stool or side table with storage, cable management, two height levels, and a surface that flips to expose either wool felt or wood.
- The Capilano is a wall-mounted coat rack with a hidden shelf for your large and small belongings.
- The Lean To is a 5-tier shelving unit which offers ample storage and simply leans against any wall.
Through our user-centred survey, we found that people move a lot and are living in more compact spaces. They value the concept of being able to easily move their essential furniture pieces with them.
Each design is centralized around our custom environmentally-friendly material, Corelam, which Blyt developed during his studies in Finland. It is a corrugated plywood which uses little material and energy to produce. We manufacture it in our studio on the east side of Vancouver in our custom-designed hydraulic press which exerts 400 tonnes of pressure. The resulting material is extremely durable and can sustain very heavy loads while still being lightweight and thin.
In efforts to further maintain a low carbon foot print and ethical production practices, we have committed to outsourcing all manufacturing processes to local wood shops where workers will be paid a wage reflective of the cost of living in Vancouver. What we really hope to do with this collection is challenge the way people consume. We want them to rationalize and slow down the purchasing of their belongings. With the ability to easily move your furniture with you, they can be pieces that will last you a lifetime.
